Hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!
Thank you so much for making portfolio night such a success! We were all so proud of the work we had to show you all! This week in the Researchers' classroom we have been busy little bees! We have been working hard with Mrs. Cook finishing the last few pages of our Handwriting Without Tears workbooks. Counting and writing our numbers has become second nature to us. “The Ants Go Marching In” and “This Old Man” have become favorite songs of ours as we are perfecting our numbers. As graduation approaches quickly we have been busy preparing for the big day! We have been focusing on learning new songs, practicing our stage presence, and speaking into a microphone. We can’t wait for all of you to see us walk across the stage! Our classroom isn't always work and no play however. Outside on the playground we are using our imaginations to create campfires in our sandbox and we are using milk crates as stages to sing our hearts out. After a long wait, we finally have a duckling! Uno joined the LBS family last Friday and has been enjoying all the attention ever since! We are looking forward to the upcoming week with the Researchers! If you click here it will take you to our photo site and you can see the week in photos. We hope you enjoyed seeing our work and performances on Portfolio Night!
You can find the photos from our week here. Now that Spring is in full swing, we are taking advantage of our wonderful community! This week we have been on many walks exploring the wetlands. We have seen birds, snakes, turtles, and even alligators! Back at school our playground is covered in caterpillars and we have become interested in how they grow. We have caught many different looking caterpillars. So far we have seen our hungry little critters eat through leaves and make cocoons! We are patiently waiting for them to turn into beautiful butterflies.
This week in our classroom we have worked hard in our workbooks continuing to learn our alphabet. We have finished our rainbow collages. They sure brighten up our room! Our class continues to work well at center time. We are learning respect and polite manners while working together. We are looking forward to yet another fun filled week in the Researcher’s classroom! Our photos can be seen here. We've had another great week in pre-K.
We discovered the easels in our classroom and have been very busy drawing pictures on the big paper. The cool thing about big paper is that we can have two friends work together on the same picture - what a great exercise in cooperation. Sometimes when we finish our drawings we label the parts which allows us to practice our letter sounds and spelling. This week we've also noticed all of the wonderful signs of spring. The leaves are budding on the trees, the bumblebees are out, the grass is starting to turn green, the air is warmer, and best of all, the caterpillars are out! We are all very keen observers and are quick to find any loose caterpillars on the playground. We are wondering whether these are the types of caterpillars that will metamorphose into butterflies. We've found a few books on the subject so we are sure to learn more about these fascinating creatures next week. We are still hopeful that a bird will discover our nesting box. We added another feeder to the area and refilled our other bird feeders, so we'll have to see if anyone decides to build a nest for us to see! Today we said goodbye to Mrs. Marks who is going to start an exciting new career as an emergency dispatcher. We wish her the best. Ms. Drake will be working full days in the classroom in her place.
